MINT
Welcome to my Solar System NFT project! I created this project to learn how to develop backend and frontend dApps for a Web3 world. What I love about Web3 and Blockchain are the unlimited possibilities they create for a decentralised system that is open, transparent, and borderless. An elegant universe.
With a Solar System NFT, you are the owner of a totally unique and self-contained fingerprint on the Blockchain. All the attributes - from star field gradient to star flare - are randomly generated upon mint and the art is pure SVG code stored entirely on-chain. No centralised server to fail and no external graphics. Your star, your planets, in fact your whole solar system are all contained within the code of a single ERC-721 token. Immutable, forever, elegant.
The Smart Contract is custom built and uses an on-chain library to assemble your art. Both the contract and library are verified on Polygonscan through the link below. I chose the Polygon chain to minimise gas costs, since the art is completely generated on-chain and given it's a solar system - it's computationally heavy to create. Contract:
0x29a980456C7514008bF62DB2f04693793b96b0bB
The art itself is generated from JS code that I ported to Solidity by the creative SVG savant that is Paul Hebert, who paved the way with his fantastic tutorials, and the Solar System example that this NFT is based on is at https://squigglesanddots.art/
I also want to say a big thank you to the astro community, who study and photograph some of the most stunning phenomena in the universe. The sheer scale and science involved are pure inspiration. I hope to use the the revenue from this project to support my transition as an independent Web3 developer, but for every 125 minted NFTs, the project will make a $500 donation to AstroNZ - a registered charity whose purpose is to promote and foster the science of astronomy in New Zealand. There are an estimated 125 billion galaxies in the universe - hence the number!
I hope you enjoy the project! This is my first journey into Web3, but keen to connect with like minded star gazers, so drop me a tweet or discord DM to say hi.
